Exploring.....

Do you ever like to take the road less traveled?Ever get in your car with a full tank of gas and just go somewhere without having any clue where "somewhere" is? Well....Tonight I took just such a journey-by bicycle. I was just going around the corner to see a really nice 1989 240sx SE 5 speed that was only $800, and I decided to go a little further. So, I went along the sidewalk and saw a bridge over the river that I could go off the road and head under to see what was in the woods at the other side. I wound up coming accross an old railroad bridge that had been abandoned since at least the 1970's, and there was an abandoned farm at the other side. So, I explored it until the sun was going down, and then I went home. Not the best story...but what stories do you all have to tell?

Most of my exploring happens because I'm looking for something, miss a turn or a exit, and continue to keep on going because I'm already late so why show up??

i tried one of those road things where ya try n get lost to find new places to go, and i realised something. New Hampshire is like that movie Pleasentville, as in i can go in one direction, get lost, and end up where i started coming from, but in the other direction, thus all roads ending in the same place

It's hard to get lost in a state that's only 20 miles wide.

yeah I only do the wandering thing when I'm out of state or somewhere new. Not much to see in the city other than crappy stale graffiki. I ususally have a 40oz in hand when I'm doing my best "exploring"

When I was single I would drive all over Houston in the middle of the night just because. Those of you who know Houston know that it takes a good few hours of driving to go all the way around the beltway, 610, 45.

that was one of the reasons i did it during the summer here in dallas. i would drive around hoping to impress some chicas with my 12 y.o. car and bad ass attitude. i guess it didnt work cause there were never any around, that and i didnt have my visor on backwards.

Most of my exploring is done on ATVs. You find all sorts of interesting things on them. You can go anywhere so long as you got the skill, gas, and energy. Riding at night in the woods doing about 35 is mind boggling. Especially if you are in unfamiliar territory.

Yeah, I have heard of an old, abandoned mental hospital that is in the woods by the coast out here which can only be accessed by 4X4. I really want to see it , but I think it got bulldozed when they built a new development in the area. I also got lost last week and wound up in a place called Kathleen Florida (in Polk county, if you know where that is). It was in the state's interior and far, far away from any major roads. I was in the middle of some beautiful farm land, but was 20-50 miles from the nearest major road, so I couldn't get my bearings. I saw a few cool old cars sitting around out there, there was a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra under a carport by a run down trailer, and a 1970 Plymouth Duster for sale too.I also came accross the remains of a long- abandoned gas station from probably the 1930's. I eventually started to panic because I had been driving for hours with no gas stations or sightings of major roads. My saving grace was when I came accross a road called "Old Dade City Road". I knew where Dade City was, so I followed it for 15-20 miles until I found a major road. I also found a cool u pull it yard that was closed when I got out there. I plan another trip out there to check out the yard as it had lots of old cars I could possibly get parts from.I also have a tale of going junkyarding when I was on vacation in Las Vegas, but that's another tale for another time...

I go all the time. I mostly look for roads we can race on and stuff. Sometimes go into places i shouldn't be, and have to leave in a hurry. That's where SR20 comes in handy!

When I first bought my sentra in SC I would go out for drives to see what was around the base at goose creek. I would point in a direction and drive but always seemed to end up at the same damn roundabout almost every time(it was a little creepy like the pleasantville thing mentioned earlier).
Now in Phoenix I like to go out for drives just to drive and unwind after a long day at work (delivering flowers*phew*). Don't quite know why I like to drive so much but I do. I have to go out of the valley to find places to explore cuz I've pretty much seen the whole place. Since I've gotten My impulse I've started going up past cave creek to drive in the mountains, still need to find a good road though
