What is BPL you ask? It is short for "Broadband through Power Lines" and it will turn every electrical outlet into a 2 way internet transmitter. This is bad in many ways. First off consider the potential of every appliance you buy being able to transmit your useage to an outside source. This is possible with this technology, transmitting either to the government or outside corporations -without your consent or knowledge! People could also hack your devices to spy on you, potentially turning ordinary items into "bugs". Then there is also the threat to the shortwave "ham" radio bands, AM radio, some TV channels and emergency transmitters. They would be essentially rendered inoperative by the interference provided by this technology. When there is a major disaster, what is the communication system that is most likely used? Ham radio operators. FEMA , the FBI and some poor police and fire departments also rely on using these frequencies to communicate. They would be forced to buy equipment they may not be able to afford. This is all being pushed for by the FCC and a number of large corporations that stand to benefit from it.If you do not like this, write your congressman before it is too late!

it's fairly silly to have internet ready blenders, not that they won'. I worked on a commercial for IBM a few years ago with the refrtigerator that calls the service man when it needs fixing.
Most of us probably have no need to worry if out blender narcs on us about out blending habbits. As for calling service, appliances don't break very often, so it's silly. I think there are just about no appliances you should operate remotely like that, it's really asking for trouble.
The tone of the story is a bit weird, It's saying that they could turn ordinary items into bugs. which unless someone makes a clock radio with a built in microphone, would be impossibel, but also they are very concearned about inerferance on short wave bands, which the FCC wouldn't approve because they don't generally approve things which cause broad spectrum interferance. If the government was really that ben tover by big companies, we'd already have better broadband.
It's silly
I think the aliens are against it because it would interfere with the mothership communicating with the aliens and they'd have to abandon earth.
but seriously, the new networking that is out now, called PowerLine or some shit like that, sucks. it sucks ass. so much interference, and as slow as my sentra climbing Mt Washington here in NH. if anything, you should be paranoid about computers from main label companies with key-logger programs built in so that whenever you connect to the net, or if your on broadband, it sends hourly or whatever your personal info to a main server. now thats more realistic. Its called Microsoft Windows.
again, a better thing to be paranoid about. The middle east is the largest source of oil and petrolim. and we seem to have control over it right? then why am i paying almost $2 a gallon in my "fuel saving" car? hell, its almost 55-60 bucks to fill our new Ram /HEMI. now, all of a sudden all these electric hybrd cars are coming out. hm, marketing scam? sounds like it to me .
but yah. being paranoid takes too mch work for me. so. crap, i lost my trin of thought. DAMN YOU! lol j/k

Even if they were to do that, I'm sure it would be fairly easy to come up with some sort of filter to isolate the appliance from the line. If you're really paranoid, buy a generator!

Can I put a turbo in my non-turbo? Yes. The trunk is quite large.
Can I put a Supercharger in my Z31?Yes. You can probably put it next to the turbo.
Can I put a Z32/newer 300ZX/VG30DETT in my Z31? This one is iffy. You'd have to disassemble it to get it in the trunk.
Shit dude that puts a whole new emphasis on "The only safe computer is one Not connected to ANYTHING" hackers ought to have a hayday with that.....No such thing as internet security..:Shudder:

if this technology does become a reality you can bet there will be a charge for it. if you don't want your appliances giving away your cooking secrets then just "forget" to pay your spy bill.
A binary data signal across a power line? Having to worry about people hacking your blender? Yeah, that'll happen the day I buy a korean car and an american motorcycle...
