you can get m/c qoutes from kbb.com, you just got to find the motorcycle link on the side... milage means nothing to a bike.
I saw a 00f4i that had 3000 mi that was trashed from too many wheelies, and 900rr running strong at 55000 mi. look at the condition of the bike, and scuffs and scratched on the sides and bar ends or miriors? then its probably been down. listen to the engine, if there is a rough idle and it dosent rev smoothly it may be due to lack of oil from those stand up wheelies...
Is the bike stock? or does it have different sprokets and extended swingarms etc...? A slip on exhaust is a common mod, but after that people who heavily mod oput thier bike are probably abusing it, they make somuch power that mods should be looked at accordingly
gsx-r's are a good bike, better then the euros or american sportbikes, but thier reliability compared to other Jap makes is low. A honda or Yamaha, and to a lesser extent Kawasaki and Suzuki are all good bikes though.
for a 00 600 with 12K miles i wouldnt pay more then $4000, maybe 4500 if the bike was nice and clean...
ps if this is your first bike I would HIGHLY recommend something different.. a sv650 or 500(or250)ex. you will probably lay it down (usually at a very low speed or stopped) and a single ferringh can cost $3-400. another thing is some 1st time riders have a slip of the mind with the throttle, htough this is a 600 It can go 150 and you dont need that speed right away. A friend of mine started on a 250 and learned to ride with our 900's and R1's and now is a better rider then all of us.
A 600 can and will kill you... make sure you get a great(not good) helmet, snell rated, that fits snug and leathers and gloves are a must. Arai or shoei and suomy are a good place to start. If intersted i am selling a med shoie in black for cheap if you need a lid. top rated helmet.
Like is aid before, if this is your first bike, i urge you to get a smaller less powerful machine, thew best part 9s the smaller ones retain their value so much, while 600 and 1000 class bikes lose a lot more value over time.
good luck in whatever choice you make.. if you want that helmet, email blankgazex@hotmail.com

ps, if you t do buy that size bike TAKE A MSF (motorcycle safty foundation ) course!!!
I dont know about Ohio, but in NY just taking and passing the corse will give you your liscence, no DMV tests, and it will teach you how to ride better then anyone else. I cant stress this enough...
The MSF is worth it!!1 trust me
you can go to Sportbikeworld.com and get some other input into this bike and price and milage, a bunch of great guys over there...

Nothing to add but this. If its in good condition and it runs good. Id get it if it was about 4-5. Gixxers are damn good bikes. Sometime this year Im hoping to get a 750 myself. My buddy has a '03 600 and it runs beautifully. Talk to Opium and take a trip over to www.gixxer.com, lots of good info there.

Sounds like a good pick, however, keep in mind that modern rice-rockets are extreamly fast and are very easy to get carried away on. My first bike was a 92' Kawasaki Ninja 250, and I would ride my buddie's Yamaha YZF600(something like that), and would think, "wow, that Yami sure is a heavy bike!" Granted, the 250 is not nearly as fast as a 600 sportbike, but it can easily outpace almost every car and Harly crusier out there. Also, there isn't much that handles as well or better than a nice light 250 sportbike. Sure, a newer bike might post better numbers, but theres something about the feel of flicking a light, small bike through the corners rather than steering a huge hulking powerhouse through. Kinda like comparing a real good BMX bicycle to a real good road racing bycicle. Which one is more fun? Plus, your running costs are less, it gets absurd fuel economy, and it's something of a rarity.(Everybodies got a gixxier ) I sold my Kawi and I have a Honda CBR600 now, but to tell you the truth, I kinda wish I had my 250 instead . Anyway, thats my 2 cents, and give the small bikes a try.

By the way, this is very true, and really any bike can kill you. Motorcycles are a whole different ballgame, and it is VERY easy to get somewhere you don't want to be, especially with a sportbike. Make sure you realize what you are getting into, and that its not just a fun little toy(ok, fine it is . I would recommend reading the book "Street Stratigies" by David L. Hough, it gives you certin senarios that may seem ho-hum inside a car, but are very dangeros on a motorcycle, and tells you how to safely negotiate them. But above all else, don't be afraid of them, just respect them, and you won't have a problem.

Hahaha You bastards! What blankgazex and LethalAudio have said so far is completely spot on. Except for the reliability of the gixxer. I've had my bike over a year now, and the only problems i've faced on it is stator and regulator rectifier. And my bike is a 1996 with 23k on it. Once that was all taken care of, no more problems. Just general maintainence. My bike is my daily rider/driver, and the most bullshit situations come up. Ive only had one person cut me off, but I've witnessed another rider 300ft in front of me last week get cut off and he went over the front without hitting the car. That is the bs that comes with the bike. One thing that I can't stress enough about your bike though. Among all the obvious ish, buy a pair of frame sliders before you even ride that thing. When I laid my bike down for the first time it saved me HUGE amounts of money because the bike itself never touched pavement. Well it did, but not that bad. $70 for one piece of equipment, and I have a 1.5" scratch on the tail of it. That's it from a 25mph slide. Another thing to stress is gear. I ride everyday in this:
I don't care if its 118 degrees out. Which is what I rode in all through summer. I'd rather have a dry cleaning bill than a skin graft bill anyday of the week. If I'm passed out unconcious from wrecking, I don't want my skin getting 3rd degree burns from the pavement that's cooking me. As for the bullshit that you will encounter. I wrecked because of this:

hehe...seriously though...a friend of mine wrecked because according to him someone threw a cigarette butt out and flew in his helmet. Don't know how true this is, but he said that when you're going 100+ mph down the freeway, anything can cause you to wreck.
I could only see that hurting if he wasn't wearing a full face helmet. I've had a bug hit me well over a hundred. It scared the piss out of me, but it happened so fast that the moment was over before I could react almost.

I think he said he didn't have the visor down...what an idiot for going 100+ down the freeway. I ran out of tears the first time I rode his bike with no helmet.
