Lucas Electronics makes a lot of electronics and wiring parts for most British cars, and it goes to say that they were the poorest quality electronics on the market, however they have gotten better in the last couple of years. The windshield ground on many cars would switch polarity sometimes, and turning on the windshield wipers would make all of the interior lights go out, or the radio would turn on. I heard of one car in which the owner would turn on the left blinker and his whole insturment panel would blink on and off in time with the blinker. Just ask any British car enthusiest about the "prince of darkness".(especially 1980's Jaguar owners.)

When we installed my brother's headunit, the car promptly decided that it wouldn't start. It would crank, but never fire. Luckily the problem wasn't related to the stereo wiring, but it does show you how "entertaining" a British car can be.
However, there's nothing like screaming around a decreasing-radius hairpin in that little car - best handling of any car I've ever driven.
The Lucas Co. is probably singlehandedly responsible for the demise of British owned auto companies. I mean, the only one left is MG Rover, all the others have been bought out by American or German owned companies!
Well, OK, some credit must be given to British Leyland, the company that kept making the Mini in virtually unchanged form for 41 years! Sheesh, can you imagine a economy 4 cylinder engine(BMC A series) that remained basically unchanged and in production since the mid 50's? Not to mention the old Buick 215 aluminum V8 which was used form 1965 to he early 2k's!
(P.S. I must be nuts. I am trying to get an old Austin Mini right now!)
