I'm not a big fan of 80's songs, but once I heard this song I couldn't stop listening to it. Lyrically its very moving, and is one of the most melodically harmonious songs I ever heard. Anyone else heard of this song or like it? I must've listened through it at least 10 times in the last hour.
Oddly enough, the 1st time I heard it was in Mr. Deeds. Suprised this song is never mentioned on anybody's list of good songs, as it is dope as hell.

Lewis Black quote of the Week:
"Baseball should go back to its roots and bring back performance hindering substances. If not for me, do it for the children."
Standing there alone,
the ship is waiting.
All systems are go.
"Are you sure?"
Control is not convinced,
but the computer
has the evidence.
No need to abort.
The countdown starts.
Watching in a trance,
the crew is certain.
Nothing left to chance,
all is working.
Trying to relax
up in the capsule
"Send me up a drink."
jokes Major Tom.
The count goes on...
Second stage is cut.
We're now in orbit.
Stabilizers up,
runnning perfect.
Starting to collect
requested data.
"What will it affect
when all is done?"
thinks Major Tom.
Back at ground control,
there is a problem.
"Go to rockets full."
Not responding.
"Hello Major Tom.
Are you receiving?
Turn the thrusters on.
We're standing by."
There's no reply.
Across the stratosphere,
a final message:
"Give my wife my love."
Then nothing more.
Far beneath the ship,
the world is mourning.
They don't realize
he's alive.
No one understands,
but Major Tom sees.
"Now the light commands
this is my home,
I'm coming home."
Earth below us
drifting, falling.
Floating weightless
coming home...
Earth below us
drifting, falling.
Floating weightless
coming, coming
home...
home.....
Damn, I just found out that there are 2 versions. There is the Peter Schilling version and the David Bowie version which is called Space Oddity. I was listening to the latter, which is where I got the line in my quote from. I thought something was odd when I listened to the song and none of the lyrics matched.
BTW, I'm not a fan of the Peter Schilling one. Sounds too 80's too me
P.S. I realized that the good version (David Bowie) was from the 70's. I figured, it sounded too mellow to be an 80's song.

Ground Control to Major Tom.
Ground Control to Major Tom.
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on.
Ground Control to Major Tom,
commencing countdown, engines on.
Check ignition and may God's love be with you.
This is Ground Control to Major Tom,
you've really made the grade
and the papers want to know whose shirts you wear.
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare.
This is Major Tom to Ground Control,
I'm stepping through the door.
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
and the stars look very different today.
For here am I sitting in a tin can, far above the world.
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do.
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles,
I'm feeling very still.
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go.
Tell my wife I love her very much.
She knows. Ground Control to Major Tom,
your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom? Can you hear me, Major Tom? Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you- Here am I floating round my tin can far above the Moon.
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do.
