Buying new car then moving from NH to mass, what to do about auto insurance

This weekend I am more than likely buying a new 2003 focus zx3. Sorry guys, I hate to get a Ford but it is way cheaper than a new sentra. Anyways, I currently live in NH and am commuting to MA where I just got a job. I am going to move ASAP bu since I need auto insurance after I buy the car, what should I do when I move to MA since I don't know of any companies that cover MA as well as any other states. Will I be penalized for only having insurance through a carrier for 1 month then cancelling? What is the best way for me to do this? This is my first new car and also the first time I am going to be dealing with insurance companies so I'm not really sure how all of this works. Thanks guys

When you buy the car from a dealership you can buy a binder. A binder is full coverage insurance for one month until you find a permanent company. When you buy the car, buy the binder and you will be covered for a month while you move. Then once you have settled in you can go get yourself permanent insurance with someone else. Binder shouldnt be more than $150. I know this cuz I use to work at dealerships.

When I bought my truck the dealer said not to worry about your insurance as it's automatically covered without doing anything, so I could drive off immediately (Not so in '93 when I bought my Sentra. I had to call my insurance company before I could take it home.) Skeptical, I called my ins co and she said that it indeed is, up to I think 2 weeks, at which point you have to make official arragements with your insurance company. I think the saleman said it was a state law.

So it's covered by the dealer or by my current insurance company?

Your current insurance is automatically transfered. Your saleman will know exactly what the facts are because they deal with this veryissue everyday.
