Angry Honda started import scene?

It was stated in another thread that Honda helped start the import scene. Bullshit! Honda had nothing to do with the import scene. It just turned out to be the trendiest car. One person buys one, mods it, another likes it and does the same. Another person sees it and does the same. It goes on from there. There really is no way to trace the "Import Scene". If it started anywhere it would obviously have to be Japan. Sorry, but I had to vent. I hate it when people give a car company credit for the import scene due to. WE are the import scene. WE are responsible for its demise.

and heres what i wrote in response to this....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i think after all the honda bashing, we still have to admit one thing:

the import scene woud not be as hot if it werent for honda and to some extent, mistubishi...

i think honda and mitsu has some hand in the existence of the SVT focuses, the specs, the mini coopers, the srt-4s, the mazdaspeed proteges, the wrxs, and the wide wide availability of aftermarket support NOW for anything on 4 wheels w/ a compact sports car image..... i never had the idea when i signed the papers for my 12K sentra w/ manual rolldown windows that there woud ever be a bolt-on turbo for my car.... thanks hotshot, and in part honda/mitsu....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i dont know if this the post you read, forsaken, but i didnt claim that honda started the import scene... just influenced it a great deal, along with mitsu.... just like you said, honda produced the "trendiest" cars....

Hmm,
Who 'started' the import scene. Good question. Ever since BMW's and VW's have been on our shores there have been comanies making modifiesd parts for them. Same for MG's and Alfa's.
However it is honda, its umbiquity, and the amount of marketing potential in teenagers (the golden market since you lock them in as adults too) that made it all 'mainstream'. But they definately didn't start it. Remember, parents bought their kids cheap hondas since they were reliable and 'safe'. Then the kids went balls out with them.

also.....dad bought mom a honda cause it was safe and reliable, and not too expensive....Dad got a raise, little Jonny turned 16, mom got the new Lexus, and little Jonny is givin the honda. Then little Jonny did what we do best...."Then the kids went balls out with them."
we're good at that aren't we.

hmm don't try to sway my opinion i guess someone loves being thick skulled either that or living in the south you just need something to hate. at any rate the cars didnt rice themselves out as was once stated in another post in another thread. Do you hate honda the car company or do you hate people w/ hondas that take them and "rice them out" hondas aren't shitty cars in fact if they are so awful why do you feel the need to constantly talk about them evidently they are doing something right or they wouldn't be an issue. but seriously this is getting just as dumb as ford vs chevy.

Datsun started the Japanese Sport Compact market!!!! The original 1968-1973 510 was the first!!!It was known as "The poor man's BMW".The other car that helped start it was also a Datsun: the 1970 240Z(both were the brainchild of Yutaka Katayama) .What did Honda have? the 600 coupe-not exactly high performance! And Toyota? the Corona.Mitsubishi? The Dodge Colt. None of those cars had ANY kind of sporting features.Mazda had the RX-2,but that was after the Datsun. The real first FWD Sport compact was neither Japanese nor German. It was British. The Austin Mini Cooper S of 1963(?).The Cooper was named after a British race car driver named John Cooper who saw the potential in the 1200lb subcompact and built his tuner version. It was sold in the US until 1969 when it wouldn't pass saftey regs.Interestingly, it was originally designed on a napkin bySir Alex Issogonis who was knighted for his design. It was sold in the UK until 2000,when BMW took over and started building the new MINI(why it weighs 2600lbs, I dunno!)

LOL, i guess i could get all offended because of a racial slur based on my region in this fine nation! but to be quiet honest i thought it was funny! and to answer your question, NO i do not hate the car company HONDA! they make excellent cars. If you read my previos thread it explained that the stupid movie "the fast and the furious" started the rice boy scene in my home town! Even with my thick southern skull, i see where quality and fine workmanship lye! Its the people in my town that make me hate the honda scene! i race them and beat them, even when they spray! and they get mad like they want to fight. they dont care about the love of cars, and the knowledge, all they know is that a body kit is supposed to make them fast! when a grocery getter like mine beats them, they want to start cutting people! Now i dont know how the import scene is where you come from, but here i have good reason to hate them! they are too damn dangerous. always looking for trouble, and not a friend. they never want to be a part of the social scene with the rest of us sr20, 13b 2rotor, 4g63 people! they want to cut peoples tires and bust out windows. dude people like that eat their own young! im not gonna be a part of that crap. thats where my thick southern skull actually helps me! i know whats write and wrong, and in this case i just want to stay the hell away from them and hate them from a distance. if i made you mad or offended you in any way, dude im sorry. like i said i dont want trouble, but i also dont want to be shut out just because i happen to have different feelings about this thatn other people!

Ok, yall blew the concept of this whole thread WAY out of fuckin perportion. The point of my post was that no single car company can have credit for the import company. The PEOPLE....US.....WE are responsible for the import scene. Not VW, not Datsun(although they did bring the sport compact car to America), not Honda , not Nissan (see DATSUN), NONE of em. It was people like me and you that wanted something differant than a gas guzzling monster to work on. Thats who is responsible. Now....STOP BITCHING!
