car show

So,
I went to the car show last night. Disappointing really. Here's the breakdown of what I saw:

mx-5: wow, they made a small car feel even smaller. Must drive nicely though.
Mazda5: smart design. based on the 3 but has a real backseat and real trunk for hauling. Looks like a large minivan thought.
mazda6: great size but cheapish interior and tinny door slam.
ford freestyle: this should replace all SUV's but ford is killing it because it is stealing explorer sales (it's cheaper, gets better mileage, and holds more stuff in a smaller safer package)
ford fusion: interesting
mercury milan: a really nice fusion with a tarted up rentacar interior. Looks the same as it does in pictures.
lincoln zephyr: looks so much nicer in person and has a killer interior. I'd drive one. This was a hit.
chevt hhr: perfect size and great interior. But small windows makes you feel like driving a tank.
scion: same ole
Lexus: the IS looks so much nier in real life. Shame they wasted all that space on the 'rear seat' it should be a 2 door car.
volvo s40: this is a nice car. Overpriced focus, but nice car nonetheles.
Jeep/chrysler/dodge/porsche/bmw who cares.
mini: like the superficial changes. still only a realistic purchase as a second car.
honda: civic was a major letdown. They are super pretty but are aweful behind the drivers seat. That dual dash thing makes it hard to see over the hood. You feel like a little kid behind the wheel peering over the dash.
land rover: real nice interiors. shame they can't figure out how to make these things reliable.
subaru: nice interiors on the new WRX. the forester is the perfect station wagon shame it gets worse mileage than a hemi and has a low seat same issue with the civic. The impreza outback has the perfect sitting position. This is a serious contender for a real car. Shame about the cladding though.
Pontiac: vibe cosmetics are nice. Great size and seating position. Somewhat smaller than the mazda5 and doesn't have a real trunk but it's better than a golf for cargo.
VW: phaeton is gorgeous. the passat's are even nicer. The jetta only looks good on the inside.
That's it really. Everything else is carryover from before.

Actually, I'm not really looking anymore.
here's why:
1) if I need utility anything smaller than a minivan is too small. All SUV's, even suburbans, do not have the utility of a minivan.
2) if I'm not driving a minivan I'd get a nice car, but I already own a nice car, so to get a nicer car means spending more than I can get for this car and the excersize is to save in monthly payments (car, insurance, gas) not increase.
So for now when I need utility I borrow a van. In the meantime I can't make a U turn without looking like austin powers.

I don't know. That wood looks like the fake crap that comes with a computer desk purchased at Office Depot. Other than that, very nice.

Wait, why aren't you getting a minivan again? You should get an Oddessy.

Cost, size, and my mother would probably steal it.

But the mazda5 is appealing. Underpowered is it's only gripe (would like AWD too but that's pushing it.) Still a mazdaspeed mazda5 would be my top pick followed by the claustrophobic HHR.
