I've got a Sony Sports model. Doesn't skip at all. I run with it, ride with it biking....nothing. Damn good CD player. AND it doesn't eat up batteries.

what is this portable cd you speak of? Get an mp3 player

I used to have a sony walkman and it didn't skip at all and if it did it was because I knocked the cd loose inside the player

hi, its 2005, get an mp3 player. From what I understand, solid state, flash type ones are better for working out, since they'll never skip (no moving parts) and are less sensetive to jarring and shocks (again no moving parts). I've seen them go for about what a GOOD cd player goes for. They don't hold as much music, as say an ipod, but yoiu're just going too workout, they should be fine.

The only problem is MP3 format is it's never, NEVER, going to be as good a format as the actual CD. PERIOD. It's digitally altered and doesn't have the nice clarity of the original sound of a CD. If it's in your car, that's fine, because you're never going to here all of the high's and low's anyway. But with a personal stereo, you don't have the outside noise like you do in your car stereos so its a bigger deal with MP3, WMA, Mp4 formats, you can hear the choppiness or lack of high's and lows.

well if they want to jog with it I think clarity can be sacrificed for the light weight

If you have a computer, or have access to a computer that isn't yours, the MP3 player is w/o a doubt the better choice here.

Vinyl r0xx0rs h4rdc0r3!1!!!!

But seriously, if you rip at a high rate, you're fine. Plus you're listening through shitty earphones anyways. For listening in my house, I rip to OGG, and I have some nice Jamo bookshevels. But in the car and work? iPod fo' sho.

192+kbps and VBR, I gurantee you couldn't tell me which is which. BTW, all my CDs are burnt from downloaded Mp3s, so there IS no difference in my case.

Hook the mp3 player to a good set of speakers and you'll have all the highs and lows you need.

Oh, BTW, ANY CD player will have good skip protection, most will last 1-2 min which is PLENTY of time for it to re-buffer the memory during jogging. Get an affordable one, don't splurge on a CD player b/c honestly, there's no point.

Also, not all MP3s players are skip free. HDD based players like the Ipod can easily freeze up. I've done it 2x and it sucks b/c you can't reset it until the battery has completely drained. If you have an HDD based MP3 player, you should advance the songs once every 15 min so that it it re-buffers the memory (you'll know it's rebuffering b/c there'll be a pause in between the songs), this way, it won't try to access the HDD during your jogging. Only Flash-based players are 100% skip free, they are usually 1GB or less tho.

True, True. But these crippled knees don't run THAT often, usually more riding. Didn't read that part close enough. I use mine more for lifting at home, really.

I havent had a problem with my ipod shuffle yet, though its only a few days old.

I'd like this one much better than a cd player, its light and 512mb. Thats about as much space as my 6 disc player in my car.

The only REAL issue I have with MP3 files, downloaded ones as opposed to the converted ones from your own CDs, is the fact that you don't really have the hard copy of it. With the CD, it's in front of me on my shelf.

With my downloaded files, mp3, wma, mp4, or whatever, they can easily be deleted if my computer fucks up, if I forget to back them up. PLUS, I always have the liner notes with the CD's to read.
