after reading the current issue of NPM, i came accross a certain article that got to me and rubbed me in the wrong way...heres a quote by Bryan Mayo
Quote:
A ricer is simply any person who attempts to make their car appear as something it is not (and uses tacky means to accomplish this goal.) Putting Type-R, VTEC, or MOPAR decals on a Toyota Corolla is an excellent example because the Toyota Corolla doesn't come as a type-anything
had he of done a bit more research, he would of known the corolla DOES come in a type something, its the Type S! look into it
second part is where he talks about people making their home made body kits
Quote:
No Homemade Body Kits. Saving a buck is certainly understandable, but making your own body kit out of Bondo, cardboard, or paper-mache is not a good idea. Homemade body kits say “I'm cheap, have no sense of style, and can't refrain from assuming people like you are just too slow to notice.”
2 words for that one "SHUT UP". what if i dont like any of the body kits made for my car and i want one? what am i supposed to pay some shop ridiculous amounts of money to custom mold a kit from another car i like to my car? i cant have a body kit for my car cuz they dont make one i like? i'll be making my own front bumper in the near future and im sure as hell it wont look like shit, i have friends with the know how, i have balls to f*ck around and i dont care about messing up! another advantage is that NO ONE will have my kit.....so why would u say im cheap? i have no sense of style cuz i want MY own design? sure im slow, im an auto GA....not everyone is out to be a racer, learn that
and finally
Quote:
Don't litter your lowered Kia Rio with aftermarket sponsors stickers, bolt on an absurdly large bare metal spoiler, and install the largest muffler you can get your hands on
why do people insist on talking shit about other cars like kias and civics? because theyre slow? dont forget most of us drive GA16's that are not fast
Give me a break....how many damn bitch sessions are we gonna have about this. It's really getting old. If you guys are going to bitch about the article, I am going to keep bitching about you guys. PERIOD.

i wasnt aware someone had already bitched about it. i dont read NPM on a constant basis, and i dont check this part of the forum out. besides im dealing with specific parts of the article, not the whole thing! and "we" dont have to have any bitch sessions, if u dont want to be part of a thread, or have nothing useful to say, then dont post

See that's the beautiful thing about this country.....I will post and say whatever the hell I want. Don't try to act like you are high and almighty, His article was a commentary....that's all. Don't read into the article so much.
FIRST OF ALL, he DID do his research. He may have used the wrong car as an example. He was making a GENERAL statement about cars that shouldn't wear badges that don't belong. Maybe another car would have spelled it out better for you, like maybe a Chevy Corsica with a GTR badge. Give the man a break.
And if you don't like it, why don't YOU write a F'n article.
Um, what about ScorchN, he made his own bumper and it looks phat as hell. I'm sorry, that article was a little much for a respectible tech magazine like NPM.
It is true, we shouldn't talk shit about other cars (at least on NPM). Here, we take civics, corollas, kias, daewoos, hyundais and such as a joke, but I'm sure Sentras are on other people's list.
And yes, I think using Type-anything as an example for a Corolla b/c that Type-S thing sticks out like a sore thumb. I don't think there's much room to talk about corollas as it is anyway, Toyota is a pretty respectful make, don't forget about cars like the Supra and the MR2.

FIRST OF ALL, youre being ignorant. he may have used the wrong car as an example? how is that doing your research. He shouldnt talk about cars he doesnt know about. give the man a break??? please! hes the one tryin to talk shit in a well known nissan magazine, tryin to be a funny man....tryin to talk about ricers. hes not jerry seinfeld, its not funny.

calm down there charlie brown... I never said i can write a better article, or that i can write an article myself, but if youre gonna write one and publish it, u better make sure u get your shit straight

fine then, say what u want.....just remember i have the same rights. im not acting all high and mighty, im humble. I'll work on someone else's car before I think about doing mine.
besides, the whole making fun of a ricer is done up, its old and stupid, its not funny anymore, it actually never was. I dont care if u make fun of ricers, do what u want......but when u start talking shit about people making their own kits, youre just being ignorant. Like justin said, what about scorchin? a custom kit has to originate from somewhere, it doesnt just appear....i bet most of the kits out there on the market were designed by someone in their garage.....
Fine....say what you want. You can have your own opinions, and I hope you always will. You can think what you want and DO what you want, but when you start calling people names...that's just stupid.
I don't recall myself calling you any names, why do you have to resort to calling names. You can make a VERY valid point without doing so.

ok, youre right..name calling is stupid. the name calling/bad language was said from frustration, but my statements still stand......the whole clowning on a ricer is beating a dead horse, dont use NPM space to write an article on that when someones car deserves to be in there, or maybe write something a bit more useful or constructive. even writing something like how to change your light bulbs would of been 100x better than that article.
You mean to tell me that you guys have NEVER seen an article in any piece of journalism that didn't fit the bill. On a serious note....why doesn't someone write an article DEFENDING the "ricer" point of view. I know SOMEONE likes the Chevy Corsica with the racing stripes and large wing on the back. Every has their own tastes, that's why I think he wrote the article.
Since I have a wife that would probably cut my left nut off if I put something TOO gaudy in her eyes on the car, I can't say that my car is to "Ricey"(whatever that is). Someone SHOULD write a rebuttle article.
It's not that it doesn't fit the bill, The writer is making a generalization, even if some people agree and some disagree, I don't think the writer has any position to write that (I didn't read it, so I don't know who wrote it). It's like a Christian magazine writing an article like "Anatomy of a Jew."
What offends me is the Article I wrote is right above it. That's an insult IMO.
Tech Writeups:
>B14 Full brake conversion
>Anatomy of a ricer
It kinda reminds me of the forums: Audio Forum:
>How do I wire an amp?
>Why am I getting static in my speakers?
>How do I swap an SR20DET into my GXE?
