I enjoyed the article. I believe the underlying message is that those dedicated to NPM and the serious members of this board are true autosports lovers and hate being grouped into the 'ricer' category. It bugs me when people see my modded car and lump me into the riceboy assholes who fly through traffic w/ tacky cars. Maybe it's elitest but I like the fact NPM focuses on well constructed cars that focus on the sport aspect rather than bling bling. I like the fact NPM stays away from the format of magizines such as Performance Auto Sound or similar magizines. This is the same reason I prefer SCC or others, they had taken the anti-rice stance.

Thanks!

I'm glad that someone liked the article. You have no idea how hard it was to go from the original, three-page version, to the MUCH MORE lighthearted version that was published. But it was enjoyable to write. Very cathartic and from the heart. There's a reason that tough love is tough. Sometimes you have to power through a lot of skull to finally get your point across. I'm not hating, I'm just trying to help at least one ricer say, "holy crap, I'm really not fooling anyone."

I just don't understand why people even care so much...
It's not your money or car.
I really don't care what other people do to their car.
If they want to run a 3 foot wing and altezza light, cool with me.

I can bet that APC does way more business than AEM per year.
I'm not condoning what they sell, but it is a business and the cosmetic aftermarket business pays well.

I think that in this great big world that we live in that there is a place for everyone.

i loved the article. i dont like rice well rice on cars anyways. even though its not my money or car its the fact that i work my ass off everyday and night just to save money for real parts while the rich lil kids buy this and that for there car that their parents bought for them. and add stickers and crap just to look nice. Then they just go around trying to race every other import or sport compact on the street. Because of all the ricer activity in town its a miracle i can drive down the street without having a cop following me, and playing tag that RICER. Enough of my venting...The main thing i want to say is all of that stupid rice gives us a bad name as an import community. just answer me this APC is trying to come out with JDM styling parts... American Products Company making Japanese Domesticated market parts??? it just doesnt make any sanse to me. If They want to be a Ricer go ahead, But don't screw everyone else because of their stupidity. "one bad apple ruins the whole bunch"

You really shouldn't let little things like how other people spend their money/mod their car bother you so much.
It's really not healthy.

I'm surprised this thread just wasn't mocked and locked.

The thing that really got me was the "less fortunate and less dedicated" bit. Owning a car is expensive. Driving a car is expensive. Modifying and racing a car is prohibitively expensive for most. If you don't understand that or see the need to pretend that you can do either without recognizing that fact, you deserve to be laughed at. Taste is a whole different issue. This is common sense.

If you don't have the money to race prep your car, do HPDE or Solo II with your stock car. If you really want to create an ultra-low budget show car, do it. Just don't drive it around, or god forbid, race with it.

i could really care less about how ugly they make the car look. its the driving personallity that comes with it that ricer look that pisses me off the most. just cause you look fast dun mean you are fast. so dont try to race people that are 10x better and faster than you. let's put it as this there are two kinds or ricers RiceBurners and Ricecookers. Burners just wanna look fast and act stupid. Cookers actually have the power to back it up but isnt stupid enough to race on the streets but on the track only. If no one agrees with me then voice it or don't i don't really care. just don't try to race me in the streets or your car will be no more. neither will mine but it'll be one burner off the streets

RPerfect example of a Riceboy: 1988-1991 Honda Civic 4-door pulled up on me--auto transmission, 1/3 of a bodykit, annoying, rattly, high-pitched muffler. We're revving the engine on my almost-dead GA16i (that HARDLY sounds like it has an exhaust system on it) and he thinks we wanna race. When he takes off and we don't he's probably thinking he's the most badass person in the world because he pulled on a dead B12.

Haha. I think one of the best parts of driving around campus is that Mustang 5.0's pull up next to me and start revving. I always ignore them until they start revving more, at which point I and whoever else is in my car turns towards them, points, and starts laughing. You get the best reactions from these people.

My 2 cents worth

Mr Young, Your article was down right the funniest thing I have read in quite sometime. I can totally relate to the 80' corrolla with "MOPAR" stickers as I have see these "types" of cars in neighborhood ALL the time. I appreciate your NPM and all the awesome power you have been able to pull out of that "only a 1.6 liter" car.

I seldom input to these arguments as the stray off course and the flaming itself is down right stupid. So.

If you did not like the article, don't. If however you can look "past" the obivious and see the humor, smile and laugh the next time you HEAR that ricer and wonder is he going to pass you up or his automatic tranny slipping like cheap hooker!!!!!

Keep up the good work Mr. Young and I can't wait to see what rabbit you can pull out of that little engine that could.
