Early R32's have a very small oil pump drive and are prone to crack the oil pump drive gear. Late R32's, 33's and 34's are no issue with the oil pump.
The R34 has slightly different cam timing that gives a bit more power than the earlier engines. But the turbo's are slightly smaller, but more responsive.
Basically you want an R33 or 34 engine, unless you know the VIN of the car it came from.
