wat stops the gtr from using its engine to its full potential???

i was wondering ppl with all the gtr's that came out they had the claimed 206kw, but i know they got more than that, they just have the power restrictions on... how do they restrict the power... is it something u can simply take out????

One thing, that's the published "from the factory" power quote. Japanese law does not allow any vehicle to be sold from the factory over 280hp. Now, if you take a factory R34 GTR, buy it right from the factory, drive to a dyno and test it, it'll be over 280hp. The reason being, the law does not specify exactly where the power is tested at (flywheel, crankshaft, etc.), plus, the manufacture's engineers then factor in wind resistance, power loss through road friction, etc. Of course they error on the side of power loss and finally come up with a number amazingly just at or under 280hp!

Now, granted the engine is capable of much more, but since the factory has to basically keep the engine held back, it's up to the owner/tuner to release it's full potential.
