There are alot of people on this forum that consider themselves "expert/experienced opinion givers". I have most of them to be otherwise. I have done my research and I have done my importing. If you want to know what is actually legal and the requirements send me a Private message and I will point you in the right direction for info. There are 5 ways to bring them into the US 2 of which are the only ones legal for US road use. You can have it brought in by a Registered Importer or you can bring it in as a rolling chassis/kit car. Both are legal and can be titled in the US if done and stated correctly. Right now only the R33 and R34 generations can be brought into the US, if you can get a vin number on the car you can take it to the dmv and see if the title is official. As for insurance almost any insurance company will insure the cars as long as you have all your paperwork DOT/NHTSA releases. Everyone keeps talking about the "Bond release", most people dont even understand how it works but the bond release only pertains to the RI in conjuction with importing the vehicle in the country. Most companies use a revolving bond, in other words the pay the one through their commerical insurance companies and reuse that amount for each car that comes into the country. Better example, we bring in an r33 worth 15k we have to post the bond of 150% the value of the vehicle. Once you post the 1st bond you pretty much never have that money returned to you, you leave it in a trust and reuse the fund each time you complete a car. So you finish one car and then use the bond funds again to post the bond on the next vehicle. The only time it is a problem is if you are importing more then 1 vehicle at a time, and then its just more money. If you have any specific questions you can email me at
