Starter help

Ok here it is. I have a 1990 Nissan p/u. The problem is my starter is shot, I bought a new one thinking it would be an "easy" job. The one bolt came off with no problem, then i tried to get the top one off. BIG problem, My extentions are too long or not long enough, I cant get at it from below, and I cant get at it from the top.The bolt Im having problems with is the one nearest the block.
Is there a specialty tool I would need in order to get the #$%@ thing off???

PLZ help

Sorry I don't have the answer, I have the same problem

The bottom bolt was no problem but the solenoid and top bolt are not accessible on my 1992 pu. I have all of the hoses, filters, etc. removed and still can't get to the top. I was going to remove the intake manifold but thought I would search online first for the 'trick'. I think it might be easier to pull the carpet back and cut a hole (about a foot wide) in my firewall, reach in and remove from there? I'll wait until the weekend in case someone responds to your posting with the answer. If not......I hope I don't blow it up with my torch when I'm cutting the hole. By the way this is the first problem I have had and I have 289,000 miles on the truck. Good luck.

I managed to get it out. The top bolt was a bit of a pain in the butt. I had to move the Fuel filter out of the way, then move heater hoses. This gave me "some access" to the bolt. I couldnt use a socket on it I had to use a open ended wrench, but it did come out after some "choice" words and minor blood loss.

Let me know how it goes
