just bought a 200sx and it has problems! :(

hi guys, this is my first post so i dont really know my way around all the threads yet, please bear with me if some of the things i asked have been asked before, i appologise in advance.

i bought a 1995 s14 nissan 200sx a few days ago and there are a few things wrong with it, im not sure how serious they are since this is my first nissan, and my first high performance car.

it has 100,000 miles on the clock, and has always been serviced at nissan.

i know i should have probably had an independent inspection done before i bought it, but i was pressed for time, i needed a car and well, i didnt. consequently things have started to happen that i hoped wouldn't.

yesterday the (!) warning light came on. i checked the brake fluid level and it seemed low but within limits. under hard acceleration it disappeared. it came back in the evening a few times, then it disappeared again... tips on this would be appreciated.

the a/c doesnt work (it was so cold when i bought it i wasn't able to test this out). i dont know how much this could cost...

the bootlid doesn't open from inside... i pulled back the carpet and i can see that the lever pulls on the cable, but something must be wrong at the boot end cause it doesnt open.

there is a little rust on the front sill and the rear sill i think, and some under the car where u jack the car up to change the wheel. the stuff under the car is worrying me a lot, how concerned should i be?

there is no smoke from the engine blue or white. when i rev all the way to the redline the exhaust is totally clear. there are no weird sounds coming from the engine as far as i can tell and i dont think the turbo whistles, although im fairly sure i can hear it if i listen hard, maybe not... i haven't had any experience with turbo cars before.

when i drove the car home from the dealer it felt totally fine on the road. but now i've noticed that when i let go of the wheel it pulls to the left a little. this could be tracking on the tyres since they are new, but i haven't checked this yet. besides, it didnt pull at all when i was on the motorway (freeway).
speaking of motorways, up to 100mph the car felt rock solid, and the engine didnt seem to be strugling at all. over 100, the tire noise increased markedly and the car felt unsettled, could this be something to do with my suspension? or maybe im short on front downforce perhaps?

thanks for your time, and any help would be appreciated.

i live in london, UK, and if someone knows any nissan specialists that i could take my car too i would be grateful.

Paul

check

about the warning light coming on and going away when you accelerate, it might be you have a altenator problem. I had the same thing happen to me.

have your altenator checked.

Paul,
As your in the uk you could try http://www.sxoc.com and join the forum there and see if they have any answers for you.
they cover the s12 / s13 / s14 / s14a and some s15 - great tech heads there and ask them what they think if you get no luck here.

i dont have time to take the car to be serviced, the light is now permanently on and im getting worried. if the alternator is broken the car could just stop when the battery runs out right? it was serviced about 5 months ago, i hope it's not that serious :/

Warning Light: If you have access to an autoparts store, see if they can hook it up to a scanner. That should tell all the electronic and some mechanical problems.

Rust: I have five years of autobody experience. The best thing you can to to stop the rust is to use 180 grit sandpaper. And sand all the rust off, all of the rust must be gone( if its surface rust), then use a decent grade primer and prime in the spots. Be sure to mask off ALL exposed paint, to protect from overspray. Belive me- I rather have primer spots rather than rust spots. Rust unattended will lead to a disaster.

Really this is the best I can do. Hope it helps.

If the car is starting to pull to one side, or if the steering wheel starts to shake at higher speeds, just whenever you have the time take it in to get an alignment and new wheel weights. I f it is going to cost you alot of money though, I would take it back to the dealer and have them fix it because it should have some kind of warrentee.
