thinking of buying 1991 Nissan Sentra Classic

my previous car got hit so now I'm looking for a replacement car.

Just took my friend's sentra classic (auto) for a ride, seems to be pretty good. nearing 115,000 km.

What i'd like to know before I purchase it is this.

What should I be looking out for? Problems, etc.

So far what I managed to find out during the short test drive was this.

1. rust beneath passenger floorpanel,
2. rust on gas filler tube & neck,
3. rust driver's side windshield,
4. rust & dings on the left doors
5. rust & dings beneath right doors & right rear fender
6. paint on top of car & trunk has some weird faded, some shiny part stripped away, thinking probably clearcoat semi-stripped
7. Fuel & Temp gauges faulty
8. No A/C
9. Auto transmission, require depression of shift lock button when moving from PARK.

seemingly the most costly to repair seems to be the shiftlock button issue? how serious could that potentially be?

also the power from a 1.6l engine seems to be a little bit on the low side. like i step on the gas but there seems to be very little power or pull at all.

hope to hear from you guys soon.

here's some pics.

Poll: Should I buy it?
1. Yes
2. No

What's the price?

These cars really need a stick to realize their full potential.

try to offer like $800 for it and say its to fix the tranmission button and because there is more rust than you'd likeand i'd be alittle worried about that rust around the gas filler. i just ofund out a few days ago that i have rust on my gas lines...yes thats rust ON the gas lines . I got my pulsar for $900 and its all ok except for that and a few dings, and a big hole in the passenger floor......i wonder if holes on the passenger side was common..

Well if you do get it, it will run forever. our '91 Sentra E has over 275,000 Miles on it, and it still flies right along. the one problem that I found, (and another one had the same thing, so it ma be a common problem) was 5th gear begins disengaging at random. but since that's an AT, it doesn't matter. we also have the newer body, which is why I wonder... is that a '90? or is it the old body since it's the "classic?" either way, it'll be a good commuter car. and as someone else said... It needs to be a MT to really get full use of it's power. the GA16DE is a really strong motor though.
