Thorley Headers, MSD ignition, Urethane compression rod bushings

Greetings,

I have a 87 Hardbody Z24 4x4, 5 speed manual, in which I'm installing a Thorley header. THY 456 Y SD. For those of you who have installed this header into a truck like mine, did you have any clearance problems. So far the EGR tube port didn't line up so I had to weld in a Swagelok fitting for 1/2" OD SS tube. I had to buy a new EGR valve and tap the intake port with a 3/8" NPT and installed a Swagelok male adapter into this so my 1/2" OD SS tube would connect. The O2 sensor port, I didn't check but when screwing in the O2 sensor it dents the fins. But by far the most disconcerting issue is clearance. There is tons of room for the piping to make a quick exit but the header hugs the transmission bell housing too tightly and the header is bound up against the 8 oclock bell housing bolt boss. It will melt if I leave it there. Then the secondary tubing then cuts clear across to the frame rail and only clears by 1/2". I spoke with tech support at Thorley and they are working with me in a fantastic manner. They shipped me another header next day air and I'm going to try the new one. But as I was informed both headers came from the same run I'm not expecting any changes.

So again, any others out there with thorley fitment issues with this specific model?

Also I've read the archives and found some of you advise installing a MSD ignition. I have a 6400 (MSD 6T) from a chevy 350 V8 application I'd like to use here. What exactly do I need to make the connection. Will the 6400 work or do I need a later model MSD? Initially via email they said it cannot be done. Now they tell me to call them tomorrow after I insisted there are 4cyl Naps Z engines on various bulletin boards with their ignition system. Did I fib to them or are you out there? Please chime in.

Also where can I buy urethane compression rod bushings/bumpers. This rod has this nomenclature in the Haynes manual for the ""front to rear axis control"" for the front suspension. It is attached to the lower A arm/control arm for this truck. In other words it takes the shock when the brakes are applied trying to move the wheel rotor backward toward the cab.

Many Thanks,
NUK
