I just got a brand new (well new to me) 1996 Nissan Altima GXE, but I just do not find enough power in the stock KA24DE engine and the automatic transmission isnt to great either. I am really hoping to find an engine and transmission swap or upgrades that I can put into the combination I have to make it faster. I soon plan to put carbon fiber and white through out the entire intior, and a system built in a carbon fiber box as well, the followed by a body kit which I have not yet decided upon. I was just requesting some information on what I can do to get more response out of my engine/tranny combo without killing it to easily, or if there are any engines that I can put in there, that have better stats and are better for upgradeing. Thanks a lot for the help!
Welcome to the boards, there are quite a few mods that would work for your KA engine to help increase your power. First would be a Cold Air Intake, then I'd go with Pullies, Exhaust, and then Headers. Down the road you could add on a turbocharger. My suggestion is to search our Altima Forums, and trust me, you should find some great info.

It is also a possibility to swap in a sr20det engine from a JDM U13 bluebird and mate it to a ?Pulsar? tranny. Its been done a couple of times, and if you're avid on getting rid of a KA, it is a possibility. I've been on both sides (ka and sr) and I gotta show some respect for the KA, it is a torquey motha, even if the sr pulls better on the top end.

Putting in a SR20 is pointless. For the money it would take to do so you can easily get all the possiblle bolt-ons plus a nitrous system. And you'lll be running better than the SR.
since you guys are on the subject of engine sap you can probably help me...
1) how much torque (ftlb) should be on the bolts on stock calliper pins
2) how much torque should be on the bolts on the stock throttle body
If you have time I was also wondering about a starting problem I have... you can hear the starter spin 3-4 times before the engine starts... the starter has recently been rebuilt so I think that should be okay... I'm think about changing out the Fuel filter first... then distributor and rotor and then ignition wires if it still doesn't start like new... any other suggestions?
you can go with an 00-01 engine for 5 more horse (whoopee) and a smoother running engine. there are ka's running in the 12's, 13's and 14's with the help of turbo and nitrous and one that i know of running in the 13's with all motor. (that ones for sale) i wouldnt swap to a smaller sr when you can do similar stuff to the ka. look at the advantages, more displacement, forged crank, forged rods, crank girdle, and oil squirters. the ka was practically built for turbo. the weak link is the lightweight aluminum pistons. replace those and you can pump out some good nitrous or turbo power.
hey D, nice to see you here.
