I just purchased a 2003 Altima 2.5 with Automatic transmission. I noticed that at higher speeds my rpms were real high (not red line). It finally dawned on me that I was driving in third gear, not drive. Is it possible that I have damaged my engine?
some cars love it, some burn it away like like the smot i poked last night, however you have a fresh whip so I doubt it will burn it away.
my advice: after youve broken the engine in give it a try, once you get to know your car she'll let you know what she likes

I waited until 500 miles, and then switched to Mobil1 Full Synthetic New Car Formula. I figured my brake-in period was less than typical so what the hell.
I don't understand why some cars burn away the synthetics. I have read alot about synthetics, and Red Line, AMSOIL, and Mobil1 all admit that under normal driving conditions (like having the car in drive not third, man I feel like such a dolt) the benefits of synthetic oil are less than under harsh/racing driving conditions.
I had a 2000 VW Passat V6 that seemed to burn it, but I got better MPG than with mineral oils.
my 240 burnt it soo badly that after about 1500 mi I think i only had maybe 2qts oops, probably should have checked that sooner.
oh well gettin a new block anyways.
