brake noise

Hi, I drive a 99' Sentra and when i press down on the brakes, a small squeaking noise is heard, normally i would think that the brakes needs to be changed but when i release the breaks the sound would also be made. (I have tested on my driveway by depressing and relasing the brake to make sure i am hearing it...) I only thought that the sound should only be made when you depress the breaks but not when you relase it. Any insight would be greatly appericated. I search through the forum but i can't find other people with the same problem as mine (noise when relased.) Thanks.

Your pads are either contaminated (dirty) or thin. If it is a High pitched squeal, your pads are very thin.

The best thing to do is remove a front wheel (if not both) and look at the thickness of the pads. If thick. remove and scuff up with some 80 grit sand paper and reinstall. use brake cleaner and clean rotors and pads real good.
