The 350z has standard on ALL models.
~Alluminum alloy-engine block
~Alluminum alloy-clyinder heads
Most of the engine is made with aluminum to keep it light weight, for performance and fuel economy
The pistons themselves are aluminum and coated with molybdenum, this helps reduce power loss due to friction.
Thanks for the info bro, still doesnt tell me what the cylinders are made of though. iron sleeves would add no more then 5-10 lbs max though I would think plus add a substantial amount of durability. I'm curious because I'm about to buy a 350, just had my Integra stolen, and I had a sleeved block with forged pistons and turbo. I love boost and want to add forced induction to the Z but I'm not going to bother if I have to sleeve the block.
Sorry for the bro comment, didnt know you were female. I know the pistons are aluminum, I need to know what the cylender walls are made of. Anyone? bueller? bueller?
This bothered me all night last night. I knew after I looked at it that they couldn't be aluminum..it isn't strong enough for the pistons. So I looked online..no answers. Well I asked my senior mechanic and he said that they were steel and then he gave me a bunch of shit saying that steel and iron are in a sense the same material and now they are having a huge disscusion about it. Sorry I didn't make any sense yesterday I was posting at work and the GM was running around, he said they were aluminum. Hope THIS helps and you don't think Im a complete idiot. Im only 1/2 way there.
lol! No worries! I greatly appriciate you looking into this further for me. I too had done two days of looking on-line for answers and had yet to find anything convrete as well, but this info will suffice. Now the question is, how much boost can it handle!
well. I saw that the Greddy T+T 350z couldn't handle more then 6 lbs of boost. because of the high 11:1:1 compression ratio. I went to the Greddy site for the article to show ya..but they dont have it there. Im going to look on the super street and import tuner sites for it. It was in one of those mags.
I heard Nismo is supposed to be releasing a kit very soon as well, and because it's a Nissan part it won't void your factory warranty! woohoo!
Also, I just got of the phone with the owner of AEBS (Ben Ma) and his partner company Tomei is shipping him 20 pairs of cams for the new 350. Preliminary numbers indicate 331hp @ the crank! The cams are supposed to be fairly mild and very streetable. He's going to be installing them into a magazine car in the next week or two, He's going to call me when they do the dyno run so I can come check it out. If all goes well he said he would give me a set. Hopefully I'll have the 350 by then, lol
Sweet Sounds good. What color are you going to get. You def have to post pics and all. Good luck with it. I've been trying to get on NISMO myself so that I can send off some orders for some parts for our Z owners here. Most of them want a chip that I can't find that they all heard about  But the NISMO site still has the japanparts.com site on it. ugh. it was supposed to be up on the 16th of this month, I think the greddy kit but like 87 hp increase.
Trust me, I'll definately be posting pics! I plan on getting Enthusiast edition with Silverstone exterior and Charcoal leather interior. Instead of spending all the money on the track edition I figured it would be more cost effective to just buy the cheaper model and buy some deep dish 18's of my choice and buy the Brembo's seperately.
Yeah they all have the same engine. Why not customize it? I had a bunch of stuff on the Z that brembo and stillen and greddy did and nowI dont know where it went. the sales people probably took it all.
