i smoked a wrx in the 8th of a mile last saturday night not once but 3 times he couldnt believe it. neither could i. i ran a 9.34 the first run at 77 miles per hour and with only a few mods. It was by far the sweetest thing i have gotten out of my car in a long time
aem cai, jet chip, header, custom cat back, unorthodox pulley, lowering springs, injectores, plugs thats just about it i am trying to decide whether i want to run nitrous or a turbo.
thanks
I'm impressed. I used to hold off Z28s and WS6s through the 1/8 in my WRX. They usually got me in the end by a 10th or two though. Silly V8s =) Sadly, most GTs only saw my tails, heheh.
Where are you from anyway? I've been on the North American Subaru Impreza Club boards for about two years...Might know the guy you raced.
Might I also add that it is VERY easy to bog an AWD car on the line. I'm not dogging your driving or your car, 9.3 in the 1/8 is a damn good time...Just saying don't get your hopes up too much, because one day you might find someone who REALLY knows how to launch an AWD car.
I just saw a spec v get its ass handed to them by a stock(looking) 02 WRX at new england dragway like 45 minutes ago. The spec had a CAI, cat back, header, and a "chip" W/E the hell he meant by that... and the wrx seemed pretty stock.... didn't talk to him.
WRXs have this way of appearing stock, even with a glance under the hood, but being quite evil. With a catless up-pipe, a high-flow cat in the down-pipe and a boost controller set at 16psi, the car will turn out 13.6s fairly readily with a capable driver...And that's with the stock exhaust. Because the up-pipe is pre-turbo, you don't notice any extra exhaust noise or anything. It's crazy. They start to flatten out after that. The lowest 1/4 ETs I've seen with the stock TD04 turbo (with Blitz cat-back, CAI, catless up and down-pipes, and boosting 15psi) is 13.4-13.5. A full Stage-1 (which is pulleys, ECU, catless up/down-pipe, exhaust, and boost controller) is netting in the neighborhood of 13.2 if tuned properly. Stage-1 is (relatively) inexpensive...But past that you're looking at a LOT of money.
And like I said...A lot depends on the driver. I've seen guys at the track running low/mid-15s in MODDED WRXs while I was netting 14.3's stock. Driving/launching an AWD car is a whole new world.
i am from texas and i run a whole lot at sealy speedway, i agree a wrx isnt something to play with i am really kinda new at adding stuff to a small car i have driven this one for almost 2 years and only started adding stuff about 3 months ago, we also run a prostock with about 950 horsepower so my car is really just a toy to run with all the civics out there, it is just so much fun running some of the local guy with eclipses and civics i am just kindof board with how fast my spec goes i am just looking for more, i guess after driving a prostock that will pull a wheel stand half track its easy to get bored with some thing that runs 4 seconds slower. if anyone knows easy ways to pull more from the spec let me know i am looking at either turbo or nitrous but would like to add some other stuff before going to that
thanks
I'm guessing the sentra i our equivalent of the pulsar SSS, both are equipped with the sr20de.
Are you sure you weren't just racing and RX impreza? no one bother modding sr20de's here cause there not worth doing bang for buck. but ive never seen a WRX been beaten buy any sr20de powered car.
Also, we only race 1/4 miles, so im not sure how the race would end up in the end.
Ive seen cars that are laggy, but get top end thrust and end up beating cars that are ahead of them by half the strip.
Also, can anyone fill me on on basic sentra info, so i know what im dealing with? im guessing there all FWD?
Didn't mean to hijack your thread man, lol...I get carried away sometimes. You could try different tires on the Sentra, and a turbo is a quick way to get power, but it's a lot of money and time in most cases. There are a few kits out there, though I can't remember off the top of my head who makes them. I'm sure one of the gurus on here will know better than I. You're looking at a couple grand for a kit plus all the req'd accesories to install though, and probably a full weekend of down time.. In the long run it should be pretty reliable and fun though. Plus, you can turn the boost down on the street and save gas.
Nitrous...eh. I'm not big on it. It's a quick fix, but man...It's horrible for the engine.
You seem like you know what you're doing though, so a turbo kit probably isn't out of your league.

Here in the US we get a pretty played-down WRX. We get a whopping 227hp and 217lb/ft of torque at the flywheel, and silly 16" wheels with REALLY crappy Potenza RE92 tires. However, I'm still thinking the guy wasn't launching properly. No reason he shouldn't have been running 9.0 1/8 times.
its a spec v not a regular sentra 2.5 L engine and that is true considering that the wrx is a turbo his top end probabley would catch me, but then again i dont race 1/4 mile so it really doesnt matter, but all in all i am really leaning towards a turbo i just cant decide how big yet i dont want to drop a bunch of cash because i am considering getting rid of my spec for a 350z and then start from the bottom but i still dont know
thanks
