Noob to Nissan , Not to others
Just joined here so I can get info on my daughters first car to help me keep it maintained . Just found her a one owner 2000 Altima with an ultra low 38k miles ,like new for cheap. All systems are functional ,tuned up ,lubed ,new brakes and I got new Yokohamas for it tonight because it was snowing (old tires were hardened). Experienced a bad NATS key last night . One of the 3 keys I got with the car needed reflashed when the extra key was made ,so it wouldn't start the car . I figured out what was happening too late, I had loaded up the car and it took a little ether to get it cranking ,drove it 20 minutes to clear it out and all is well. Went on Alldata at work and confirmed that I need to go to Nissan dealer and get all 3 reprogrammed together. Hope this is only issue with the car for a while. I've owned, maintained and/or restored Saab , Triumph , Mercury ,Ford, Honda ,Chevy, Buick ,AMC , Jeep and Fiat . I've only worked on one Datsun 240z , a Nissan 200SX , an Xterra and an early 90's Maxima(all friends rides), the total extent of my Nissan experience . I've worked in the car business in parts and service over 20 yrs and had past exp. in oil and gas exploration ( vaguely car related) so I'll help when I can with general car info until I get to know Nissan better . My main knowledge is GM vehicles (GM certified) ,but I did 4 + yrs of Toyota parts ,2 yrs Ford/Mercury ,some AMC /Jeep and have 3 years in owning and maintaining my Audi A4 Quattro and my 11 yr old Chevy van 102k mile (original owner) . I can/will be be found when not here on the Audiworld forum under another user name. Hope I can learn from the crew here and pass along some of my knowledge to you in return . Later
