Lifters

I have a 1998 altima that was leaking oil from underneath the head gasket. After removing the head (wow what a job!!!) I turned the head upside down to clean and the lifters fell out. My question is what is the difference between the ones with the small round hole in the side of the top surface and the ones that don't have?? There is no way of knowing where the came from so I need so help.
