HELP! `99 200SX S14a gearbox,no reverse!

Can anyone help????

I was out in my s14a the other day. everything was ok until......coming out of the shop, getting into the car and starting the engine....Uh?! Whats that nasty rattling noise? It didn`t do that 10mins ago. Push the clutch in and the nasty sound goes away....Ah thats better. Now to select reverse......Oh bollards!!!! i cant get in to reverse.

My thoughts are that the bearings have gone on the reverse cog and its dropped onto the shaft causing the horrible noise and loss of reverse. I know its not the VVT rattle that has been experienced by alot of people. removing the gear stick and hearing the noise from inside the box backs up my thoughts.

Has anyone got any ideas on this? opinions are most welcome.

Ideally, i would like to remove the gearbox and get inside it to remove the shaft and reverse cog. has anyone got experience on this subject? Am i better off getting another gearbox or is it easy/difficult/at all possible to work on the one i have? Money is a real big issue here!!!
