Weather/road conditions in Chicago?

i am getting 17s with 205/40/17 tires and I was wondering if these would be able to hold up against the potholes and snowy/rainy conditions? there is no way i can afford to replace wheels all the time or even get them fixed. any info would help!!

No they will NOT hold up. I have the same fitments and i have to take them off when winter comes and i have to be really careful on Chicago streets. I have already bent 1 of my rims on a pothole... And the snow is way too brutal and unforgiving with low pro tires

THANKS for the info- I was going to buy the 17s tomorrow.

I was wondering then what would work well year round? Do you know what other people have there? maybe 16s with 45s?

Not sure what other people have but when november rolls around i remove my 17's and go stock. when april or may rolls around i remove stock and go 17's its kinda cool tho becuz you extend the life of both of your tires..
