Anyone in Ohio (Cleveland) wanna help?

I am about to buy an 88 stanza. When you let the clutch out there is a horrible rattling sound. Sounds like something is broken off and rattling around. I have FWD tranny experience, but not Nissans. Anyone know whats up? It also pops out of 5th apparently. Anyone got a tranny that will work they can part with? Thanks for any responses.

The rattling sound you are probably hearing is the throw-out bearing, My as well plan on replacing the whole clutch pack, as for the 5th gear pop out, the sincro's are bad in it, are you sure you want to buy this car? Trans work aint cheap, clutch pack is gonna get ya to, make sure you turn your flywheel too!

When you let the clutch out? The throw out bearing is only active when the clutch is disengaged (clutch pedal in). I am nearly positive it is either the input shaft bearing or 5th gear itself is completely busted apart and rattling around inside. I was just curious if anyone else ever ran into a similar problem. I have decided to swap the tranny out and buy the car. One junkyard told me I could get one for 250 bucks with a 90 day warranty handed to me. I found a Pulsar tranny in a slightly shadier junkyard for a hundred bucks. I do not know if the Pulsar is interchangeable with the Stanza. Anybody else know? Also I have to pull it out my self and it isn't easy in the mud and snow. What do you guys think? Thanks for your help.

Also, as I am completely new to the Nissan Community, where is a good place to look for performance parts for the Stanza? Also if someone could give me a quick run down of common engine codes. For instance, whats in an 88 Stanza, and what other vehicles have it. I also would like to put a performance header on it. I can't stand stock exhaust systems. Is there one evn available?
