is it stock radio? do you rotate the volume adjuster? or push the up and down buttons?
if you plan on upgrading sounddomain.com, electronics.com have good deals.
pioneer is the best bang for the buck. get one with USB inlet. so that you don't have to carry all those cds.

besides buying new you can take out your cd player and take it apart when you are bored on the weekend.

rotating volume adjuster is a resistor. when you rotate it to increase volume resistance decreases. I think...

Hey Mickey-
Yup its a rotating volume knob. any suggestion on reparing it? I'm not looking for upgrading the radio to something better because I have better things to waste my money on than a hi-fi stero system. Thats the price for being married and having kids

so I don't know if volume adjustment knobs evolved significantly or not. but basically you can take the volume knob out. make sure your soldering tip is clean. don't heat your radio too much.

then plug in the knob to multimeter and measure resistance. while your knob is plugged to the multimeter you can rotate the knob and see if resistance reading changes. it should. if it does not then the tip that contacts the resistor is probably stuck. you can replace adjustment knob with another knob, which has the same resistance range as your original. don't know where to buy individual electronic components.

this is the only thing I can think of. there maybe another problem. I am not really good with electrical devices.
