Thumbs up Updated/Revised HNE Beach BBQ 05/23/04 - Attending list

This new thread on the HNE May meet gives the details of the BBQ, where, directions, etc. I've also added a list of those who have committed to attend. Only post on this thread if (1)You are not on the list and are going to attend (2)You are on the list and must cancel your committment to show. I will keep the list updated through the day of the meet. Any other comments, etc., add them to the old thread.

Below is a copy of Matt's (Matt93SE) details from the other meet thread.

Now for the "official" post about the event..

Location: Surfside, TX
Date: Sunday, May 23rd.
Time: roughly 2:30 until ???
What's going on: BBQ on the Beach! Fishing- if you have the gear. If someone has a volleyball net and stuff like that, bring it. plenty of room.

I also need a volunteer that has a decent size grill to bring it. I have a tiny one that will cook about 8 burgers at once. I'm sure you can talk Austin into loading it up in his truck if you don't have a way to transport it.
Otherwise, the schedule is pretty open.

Plan on getting to the beach about 2:30pm. That means you need to leave downtown Houston about 1:00. If you wish to caravan down there, there is a Park & Ride at the intersection of 288 & 518 (just a couple miles south of B8 on 288).I will leave there at 1:30pm. It's about an hour drive from that intersection.

We will be parking ON the beach, so if you're afraid of sand, you'd better ride with someone else. it shouldn't be a problem for anyone to get out there, and our car really didn't get any sand in it other than the stuff on our towels and shoes... but if you're like Mike, you may want to ride with someone else. there's room at my house to park about 5 cars if you don't want to leave them at the Park & Ride.

Here's a few pics of the location I've picked.. it's pretty much out of the way and shouldn't be too crowded. 3 miles up the beach, we could hardly find a parking space, so we picked this spot:
http://mattblehm.com/beach/
(Also say hi to our little jellyfish friend that washed up while we were roasting our hides on Sat.)

For those of you that mentioned camping out the night before or will not be making the caravan, here's the directions:
Go South on 288 until you see the exit for TX-332 EAST. (The first one goes west.. It joins 288 for a few miles then veers east closer to the coast...)

Take TX-332 E for a few miles (about 8) until you run into the beach..

Turn LEFT there onto CO RD 257 and go about 5.5 miles until you see a sign for "Public Beach Access 4". (the signs are on the left side of the road, but the beach is on the right. watch for it.)

Turn RIGHT onto the sand road, and head for the water. When you get there, you will be able to go right or left onto the beach, but I'm not sure where we will be yet- depends on how many people are there when we get there.

I think that's pretty much it. You guys are welcome to camp out the night before (please mark off enough parking for 20-30 cars if the beach starts getting crowded on Sunday before we arrive.)
You're welcome to bring your own grub to cook on the grill.

Only rule is no booze at the 'official meet'. If you want to come up the night before and party, that's cool- just don't have booze when the rest of us show up on Sunday morning. NO EXCEPTIONS.

List of those attending:
1. Me- Matt93SE
2. Flying V
3. d_warner
4. rob'sae
5. Rathi1346
6. Chuck
7. C1 Bender
8. Tickwomp
9. 96_vqmax
10. phastphucker (maybe)
11. nismosean (maybe)
12. JCCoRacer (maybe)
13. Nova73guy
14. 82_280ZX
15. Tickwomp

It's a big maybe for me. I have not made a meet since last August (horrible I know). I know one or two other Nissan truck guys that may be interested in driving out to the beach.

What do y'all need? Any food, drinks, etc?

At this point, we're pretty much going to do a bring your own type of thing.. If you have a decent size grill you can bring in the truck, it would be greatly appreciated. the one I have will only do 6-8 burgers at a time, and that may not be enough for the people who are hungry when we get there.

otherwise, feel free to bring all the drinks you want and give away.

Here is what I have:

1-4 person tent
2-beach chairs with leg rest's (very cool indeed!)
1/2 case of bottled water
5Lb's of sausage (get your head out of the gutter)
1 dozen beef franks/sausage
1 pack beef hot dogs
3-2 litres of soda
1-power inverter
1-florescent light
1-25Ft extension cord
2- 2 way radios
1-kerosene hurricane stove/oven
1 dozen cigars, mixed
4-rolls TP for bong holes
1-3 year old "mini ME"
and "drink" for before the meet

I am going to be headed out from downtown houston at around 3:30-4:00pm and headed down there. I am going to find the place and set up camp. If anyone would like to follow/caravan then we need to get together ASAP! Call me at 713-822-4347 so we can arrange things. If anyone would like to go and does not have a ride, call me. I would like to have as many people as possible to go.

no, but on Sunday I'll probably be cleaning out that "hidden" ice chest with the frosty adult beverages inside your tent. (and no, that's not suppoed to be there.. but if we don't see it during the meet, it doesn't exist. )

My stuff will be put away long before the meet. I have no intentions of either getting trashed the night before or staying sloshed anytime during the meet. Just enough to pass the time....

[rant] ummm, camping and movies don't really go too well.. the point is to get away from the boob tube, not take the entire city to the beach with you! [/rant]

Right now it looks as if I might be the only one camping, and I also need to have something to help keep the little man occupied. If there were more people then there would be no need for movies. Bored with a buz usually does not mix well. I might be tempted to take apart that altima on the beach or something.
