drove over lots of high water...should i be worried?
i was pissed off and had no where to go....i tried different routes but all were kinda flooded....i dont think the water was that high tho, but i saw lots of cars that just pulled over cus they were scared of the water....but me, I just drove right through....do u think the water could have damaged my car? car drives fine, and the water was maybe 5-6 inches above the ankle. i dont think that's high enough to cause any damage
Are you people in houston fucking STOOPID?!?!
Why drive? your life isn't in danger if you just park there and wait for a while! What's gonna happen? Get jumped by a goon that can't get away because he's stuck on the same tiny island you are?!
Park your damn cars and walk/swim to the nearest hotel and spend the night there.
I'd love to be the insurance agent for one of you fools some day..
"You want to make a claim on your car? okay, what happened and where is it now?"
"You drove through WHAT?! Why?! You wanted to get home and eat dinner, so you drove a $30k car into an intersection with cars already broke down and stranded in it!"
Sorry for bashing you man, but that's just stupid. park the car. It's not worth ruining the car-or worse getting washed away by high water and possibly killing yourself.
As for your case, if you didn't get any standing water in the interior and your engine didn't suck up any water, you're probably okay. the major damage comes when the wiring and upholstery end up with standing water.. it causes mildew, electrical shorts, all kinds of fun stuff.
Cars aren't boats. They have wheels because they're made to go on dry land, NOT water.

LOL,HAHAHAHAHA that's what everyone should do when they see water get up to over the lip of the rim.Cause I know what will happen if you keep driving through it,KABOOM and the rod snatch and came out on the side of the oil pan or on the block.Well that was what happen to my parents van, when my brother saw the street was flooded up to about 1-2 feet of water,he still wanted to swim(drive) through the water, cause he think he was in the boat(van) and everyone was in the car.And the insurance fork out $8500 for a brand new motor :dropjar: Nam,in your case you should take your transmission dip stick out and see if the fluid look red like it use to,or it looks like strawberry milkshake. If it does then you better take it to somewhere and have it flush out.
damn!!!!!!! i'm speechless, i have a cai and still gone through it. but it does make a lot of sense, i feel like a :dumbass: , who got in the water, all in time for some , but thankfully, everything is
cars have lots of electronics and lots of wiring...
just a few drops of water in the right places... means a blown electrical system, or a short.. and there is nothing worse than scavenging for a damaged wire!
Then water can go into the air intake... and bye bye engine...
then water can short the battery and cause a surge....
then it can get in places hard to dry.. and cause rust...
then it can ruin your distrubter and dizzy...
ehh.. bad idea....
trucks can do it.. they are high up.. cars.... sport coupes... no no
well, i would definitely pull over and not risk it if the water was really high, but i dont think it was that high.
i mean, i was judging from the cars in front of me and the water looked like it was a few inches below the bottom of their front bumper, so i thought it was safe
btw, it's easy to just say pull over and spend the night on the side of the road.......plus, if u're a poor college student, like me, with only about $3 in ur wallet, u can't really do much on the streets
You can take a bus for only a dollar a day right?LOL!HAHAHA no J/K bro.In your case,I don't think you have any serious problem then. But just be on a safe side check all your fluids out and see if water get in it,through the seals and who know how they might get in.
i woudln't go so far as to try to find a hotel but you know the limit. i only go in if the water doens't really go over the much of the rim. but you know houston weather. its like schizo-rain. usually that shit drains or dries FAST..if i saw broken down cars in the middle of the street i wouldn't go thorugh that shit...i'd be more worried with a Cai tho...

actually the bus costs me $3...but then it'll just drop me off at the NW park& ride and i'll have to walk for maybe 30-45 mins to get to my house.

well, some of the ppl in my school took the bus, and got stuck on the bus for like 9 hours or something like that.
I can understand the frustration of being stranded in high water. On Monday(11-17-03) I left for work when it started pouring outside. The freeways started to get blocked up and traffic was too jammed to turn around, so I decided to continue on the second half of my 15-minute trip to work. I followed a Miata through most of the back streets that I take, and pulled into a parking lot when I saw the water getting high on the Miata. I was physically less than 5 minutes driving distance from work, but waited another 3 hours for the rain to stop and the water level to lower before driving the rest of the way. My biggest problem was simply getting my entire car splashed by the trucks and SUVs who were whizzing by--but I did get a few good laughs in when I saw them flooded out on the side of some roads.
It can be a real pain, but like most of you guys said, losing 3 hours at work, or missing a hot meal at home...is nothing compared to the headaches of water damage to your car.
