My Nissan pulsar has never got to half way on the temp gauge either, but that is normal. If you really want to replace the radiator why not just get a radiator shop to recore your old one. I live near the coast, my first radiator core lost a lot of fins so after 11 years I got it recored , they use the original tanks [usually costs about 1/2 to 3/4 of new radiator price]and it has lasted another 12 so far.
