Found my own intake solution [HKS]

So I've owned my truck for about 3 months now and instantly I wanted to get rid of that air box. I've searched the forums figuring out what to do because of the intake manifold design. At first i saw that K&N offered the filter for it, I almost got it until my friend gave me this HKS mushroom filter that had the filter element falling apart. So I went to a shop and ordered a refill element for it. Instantly i removed the entire stock air filter box and dropped this right on. Made a few cuts to the coupler to get the MAF to sit in it and the other vacuum tube i'm about to install a nipple on the coupler of the cone. However you will need to put a breather on your valve cover. It actually works pretty damn good for my situation. The only thing you'll have to deal with is the cabin noise, if it bugs you. Also the cone is small enough to fit under the hood without touching, which was a concern with the first ractive cone I had kicking around from a 96' civic =P

I think the K&N replacement would work better as the stock air box is sitting away from the engine and has a fresh, cool air source.

With the right choice of pieces maybe a cone filter could be installed in the filter airbox and some ducting and piping could make a really good cold air box....
Here's something I put together on one of my Maximas...

pretty sweet! inside the hks filter is a super-funnel that induces a venturi-effect much like the stack before your cone but built into it.
