Factory Shop Manual CD and 'MAF'

Two questions folks...

First, what's 'MAF' (an engine part somewhere near the intake???). Seen it mentioned in a number of posts, but can't figure it out. (Even ran it by my 12year old daughter who's up to date on all the latest Internet acronyms...BRB, LOL, BTW, IMO) She gave me a funny look and walked away. : )

Second, I'm looking at buying a factory shop manual on CD (right now all I have a is a paper copy of Haynes). Anyone have any opinions on these manuals on CD's? All I know is they're A LOT cheaper than paper copies.

Thanks!

I just googled "MAF" and I got my answer on the 2nd hit.
I assume you have an internet connection of some sort.

Usually scanned copies of the Haynes/Chiltons manuals if it's off eBay. If it is an actual FSM, then, yes, there is a heck of a lot more info in there than in the Haynes manual types...if it is actually a real Factory Service Manual.

What year is your truck? I can point you to '96-'97 but that's all I can find for free.

Ok, so I now know that MAF is Mass Air Flow sensor...thanks.

Well, my truck is a '97. Free sounds really nice! Where should I look?

(Would sure be nice to have an actual shop manual as opposed to a scanned Chiltons or Haynes.)

If the free option doesn't work out you can sometimes find paper and cd manuals on ebay. I payed less for an almost new paper fsm than the haynes. The fsm is about 4 inches thick with details. The haynes is good if you are not familar with the vehicle. It has many more steps than the fsm but the fsm tells everything from electrical diagrams to rebuilding engines and all your torque specs. If you plan on doing all the work yourself it is great to have both.
