Transmission shifter all wack in my 4cyl 4x4..

I recently performed a trans swap in my 91 2.4 4x4 hb. we installed the shifter after the trans was already bolted up. The shifter goes into all the gears just fine, and we've test drove it. however there is nothing stopping the shifter from going to far to the left. at first i thought that there was no 1st and 2nd because when i go all the way to the left with the shifter there is just play up and down its totally open. 1st and 2nd are lil a mil over and up or down which seems strange also. at first is was very hard to differentiate 1st and 3rd, and 2nd and 4th.

anyone experience this b4? what fixes this?

pull the shifter out and check to see if the plastic bushing is on the end of it...

What zanegrey said, & check for a broken motor mount. I've seen them broken on these, bring the shifter over towards the driver.
Good Luck

the white plastic thing was still on the end indeed. i swapped it out and tried a different stick that i kept from my old tranny, and the same thing...

how do the motor mounts play into this again?

With the torque of the drive train, a broken motor mount on the right side, will cause the engine to lift on that side, thus causing the tranny to tilt to the drivers side. More so on a 2WD, or a 4WD like mine. Look at your fan and see if there are any marks, or if it's close to the shroud.

felt inside there it seems to feel right. obviously i'm not able to move it around as its way to hard to do that with my fingers. maybe its a stopper of some kind that worn out on that side. it just sucks when i want to quickly grab a gear. really hard to find when im in a rush.
