Question Knock Sensor

Hi all. My knock sensor is getting a code 34 and no continuity from e terminal to ground on the plug on top of the engine so I am pretty sure the sensor is bad. Does anybody know if replacing it will give me decent MPG and power gains, or is it not worth the trouble (last week I got 13 mpg in town) It looks like it is really hard to get to because it seems i'd have to take off the fuel rails and everything on top of them. What to do What to do?

The knock sensor is located at the top of the engine block and the intake manifold must be removed to access it. P/N is #22060-30P00 and runs about $168 from Nissan. Labor time is 4.6 hours. You'll also need intake and plenum gaskets and coolant. No continuity could also mean a break in the wire at some point between terminal "E" and the sensor.

I doubt you will see any MPG or performance gains by replacing it. You should still correct the problem. It is the sensor's job to detect engine knock and inform the ECM to retard the ignition timing to help prevent engine damage.

He's right. However I've been knock sensor-less for at least 2 years (from what I just found out a few weeks ago). If you've taken care of your engine regularly, you shouldn't have to worry about replacing the part immediately, but it is up to you weather or not you want to hold off on it.
