Tach Problem

I don't know anything about the tach. I'm guessing it's tied into the ignition system somewhere, but anyway here's my problem/question.

Occasionally my tach jumps 1k for no apparent reason. It will stay 1k above what it is actually running for a few seconds, then slowly inch it's way back down to what the engine is actually turning. Today I was at idle tach read app. 1300, but idle was actually normal - 800ish. It's a 97 XE HB, 2.4 manual with 92k. I noticed it around 30k, just didn't care. Really don't care now but I'm curious to why it's happening. No CEL light. It might not do it for a few weeks, then it may act up several times in one week.

The stock tachs are wonky and from what I've seen, simple replacement is the fix.

The stocks always crap out. Try checking connections and fuses.
