Grinding noise
Hey folks, I'm new but I'm fairly certain no one else has raised this issue.
I have a 1997 Hardbody, 4cyl, 5 speed, 2wd with 220k miles. I've owned it for almost two years and it has always made a grinding noise at 3500 rpm. At first the noise was only intermittent but lately it happens whenever I drive and as soon as I hit 3500 in any gear.
Originally I thought this was the main transmission bearings but I noticed that it makes the noise even in neutral or with the clutch pedal down, which makes me think it's in the engine. Now I'm thinking it's the mains bearings.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Any tips on diagnosis?
