1987 HB burns tranny fluid!

I have a 1978 d21 that burns tranny fluid through the intake! I found that the modulator valve was shot. I replaced it and now it won't shift unless the selector is in D2. It's a VERY hard shift and is only one gear. What am I missing? Is the modulator adjustable or is there another adjustment I'm missing?

Ok got the problem fixed! The aftermarket modulator is the same style as those on the Ford products-it's adjustable! After talking to a good rep at Lumberton, NC Nissan, he clued me in and the rest was a simple turn of the screw on the modulator until the shift points were "back to normal". AND no smoke during idle!
