I've heard atleast 15 seconds, other wise the oil is not up in the heads so it can damage the valves, rockers, springs...etc...Especialy important when its cold out.

Warm it up for a minute or two, and drive it like a baby until the temperature is up to normal... DON'T REV IT HARD for the first five or ten minutes... you should be fine.

i always let it sit for at least 1 or 2 mins...then just keep it under 4k rpms until the temp gauge is up to normal operating temp
