Can I hurt my engine by using the 3speed on my automatic?
I have an automatic lancer (only stick they had was beige color and my auto is silver ) Well for the last couple of days ive been missing around with the L, 2, 3 gears. I know my cars an auto, but i just like the way the car shifts and feels when i put it in L, than shift into 2, than shift into 3, i feel a nice punch in it compared to the D (drive) gear. My question is, can this hurt my engine because its an auto and im trying to drive it like its a stick? One thing i do notice is my gas drains faster when shifting than leaving it in D. I wish i got a stick, but i rather have a silver auto than a beige/brown stick!

i dont really think so. As long as your not downshifting with it, or letting off the gas when you shift, it should be ok. I have ridden with people who let off the gas as they do it and confuse the hell out of the computer, then as the car shifts up they floor it again. I do it everytime i drive my pathfinder. I drove a jeep cherokee for awhile and did it nonstop. It didn't do any harm an it was fast, not to mention fun. Sometimes its the best thing to do it, like when we pulled our boat with our old bronco. It would shift up and bog down if we didn't shift it manually.

Downshifting puts a lot of pressure on your torque converter, but i've never heard of a problem with upshifting on an automatic. I do that in mine sometimes, but like you said, it does seem to use up the gas faster. As long as you don't have the overdrive off to, you should be fine.
Just don't do it alot, because that's the only way you'll find out, when you damage your tranny, then you'll be forced to put a new one it (manual perhaps?)
I had an automatic subaru AWD that i always shifted, even downshifted. Nothing bad happened, the tranny went 190,000 miles without any problems, but i did kill the rear diff most likely by shifting back into forward gears while rolling backwards.
