Its not mine and its 100 miles away from me. I being a generous fix it guy need some info on the nissan multi timing and belt replacement procedures. I've done quite a bit of work on the pickups but am not sure if they are running the same powerplants.
Heres where I stand. The cam shaft timing gear from what I remember has two notches that have to line up to the head gasket at tdc and there should be a dot on the gear that is at the top. The crank pully has a few peen marks on it (I think it was three) that line up to the timing plate or is it just a hole to set the #1 tdc? Yes I know how to check for absolute tdc.
Now if all notches and timing marks line up properly there should be no problem with the belt itself. I understand from what she has told me that there are marks on the belt itself. Now whether the last guy installed it properly the last time I would think that the black mark should be reasonably in line with the dot marked on the cam shaft gear. If not I would say that it has skipped a tooth or a few. There being three line two white and one black.
She was told that the distributor need replacement, a crock I think, but she bought one from the wraeker and replaced the cap and rotor on it. Upon start up it did run but when it was brought up to high rpm it crapped out and will not start again.
Questions:
1: is this the type of engine that is going to be valve damaged by a worn or failed belt?
2: could they be off a tooth on the dist. ie. reterded and have it still run until it went to high in the rpm range to fire properly anymore?
3: Did these things have any kind of brian obd2 or Japaness similar system I dont think so
4 does anyone have any links that I can send her so she wont get stroked from her supposed mech?
maybe I missed it, but what vehicle are we talking about here?
