Just got a letter in the mail from port city nissan in NH. Since they are getting rid of all their old models and stuff to make room for the 2004's, they are having one of those big sales. I got sent a voucher for $4,500 and it says it may be used per purchase of dealer-selected new and used vehicles but non-negotiable and does not apply to advertised vehicles. What is the catch? I know they wouldn't give out $4,500 for free.
They're just knocking most of their profit off to move vehicles. It's not REALLY money, 'cause you can't "spend" it anywhere but at that dealership. It's just a guaranteed $4,500 knocked off their price.

its a sales gimmick, a good one 2, the dealership is planning on clearancing the older cars out, so lets say they sell at 20K, theyre gonna clearance them at 15K to get rid of them, they;ll send a lot of ppl those vouchers to let ppl think theyre getting a good deal and that its a sale of some sort, but its not, nissan already decided to lower the price 4500$ and didnt tell anyone about it, so when u go in, they'll say the price is 20K minus the 4500 to make it seem like a deal too good to pass up, when all this time they were really trying to sell them at 15K. if that made any sense
Yeah that's what I figured, like it would only be good on certain cars that are marked either up in price, or aren't marked down at all. My car's radiator just leaked all over my car floor 2 weeks after it got hit, I need a new car now! Too much of a good thing, is too good to be true.
yeah, but it may be worth your while to buy right now anyways.New car sales are slow due to the economy and dealerships and manufacturers are desperate to get rid of their excess stock.I'd shop around and see what you can get the vehicle you want at first. Then see if it is worth your while to get the voucher discount, which will be in all likelyhood be sticker- voucher and no further negotiation allowed.Example:I think I paid 11,500 for my 98 Frontier new and the sticker was around $15,200.Almost a $4k discount and that was the advertised price.I had no more haggling allowed at that price.Plus, they probably make some money on the vehicle on the back end of the loan due to the yield spread premium. The YSP is a percentage of a loan that is paid back to the financing institution (a cut goes to the loan officer too) by the lender as a commision for setting the loan.
