Right lubricant to use on shifter?

I recently bought a '95 5-speed Altima with 125K. It runs fine, but the stick feels tight (especially after driving the car a bit) and it squeaks loudly when I move from any gear to another. Does anyone know if I can just spray WD40 or put a little oil on the ball at the base of the stick, or is there a special lubricant I should use for this? Thanks.

When my stick needs some lube, lotion works great... and the base of my stick has two balls - dunno what happened to yours.

....okay.

Try some WD40.

try the new KY Jelly Warm Stuff lotion, it works wonders for squeaking old sticks. Make sure to grease the ball bearings up especially well, youll get a small horsepower gain.

ok - so you've elicited several jokes about male genetalia - congratulations !

though i don't know what nissan recommends, i suggest trying white lithium grease. it will last a lot longer than wd-40 .

Hoax -- thanks for the suggestion re lithium. Regarding the other replies, I didn't respond to them because I felt sorry about their problem.
