paranoid after gearbox replacement

gentlemen,

my motor wouldn't go into 1st and 2nd for a stage. took this to the mechanics, and they tested first if the linkages needed replacing [not sure what these are =\] which they replaced...when that didn't solve the problem they went for a new gearbox. now being an LSD engine, it was a bit hard to find one.

anyways they replaced it, i got a whole new gearbox. now the following is happening:
- speedo doesn't work [this happened shortly after the repair]
- when i get the revs up too high, the car will start shuddering and the revs won't go any further. its semi alright, as this is the point where i pretty much need to change gears [otherwise im over-revving]

my question is, and its a long shot - could they have inadvertedly disconnected something or tampered with anything? also i read about manuals requiring a timing belt replacement every 60,000 km...could this be the shuddering?

i'm grasping at straws, and apologies if im posting in the wrong section. thank you in advance.

Thumbs up

Take it back to the mechanic who did the gearbox and have him check it over they probably didn't hook something up properly. I think the timing belt interval for a Pintara is 100000km same as my Pulsar, but if you don't know how many kms it has done change it as a precaution, better safe than sorry. The belt wouldn't cause the juddering more likely to be a bad engine or gearbox mount get the mechanic to check the mounts when he fixes the speedo.

Its probably the speed sensor thats not connected or has malfunctioned thats causing your speedo not to work.
And I agree with pulsar86 about the mounts.

thanks heaps for the replies guys, i took the car in this morning and he says that the juddering is due to hitting the rev limiter. as in, it limits at around 27000.

i dont really mind because this is slightly after i should be changing gears anyways, though i wish he'd mentioned it before because theres nothing like having a cheeky cigarette then driving home, and having it buck like a bronco

as for the speedo he said it could be three things. the thing connected to the gearbox, or two other things not exactly sure...but i did leave the car with him so he can check out why one of his mechanics snapped off one of my power window buttons

27000 RPMS? wow thats alot... now did you mean 2700, 2000 or 7000... im guessing 7000rpms

unless you are racing you dont really need to rev your engine up that high before you shift...

its hard on your whole car... you should be shifting around 4500-5500 and only after your car is fully warmed up... and even then that is for some spirited driving...

when im out driving my car normally i shift around 4000rpm.. its easier on gas, easier on my car and much easier on my pocket book

hahaha it definately is a typo. its a 92 pintara ti

well they fixed my broken power window button, and while in neutral/brake on i revved it to 4k without juddering. i then tested it on the 2 minute drive home and no juddering, pumping it over 3k with only the whine of the engine getting louder.

the speedo still isn't functioning though - as stated before this could be three things. one of which stands out - loose connection to the gear box. i'm not sure how hard/easy this is to check for. i know i can rip the whole dash off because its all just screws.
