Smile Engine stalls and die when backing

My car is Nissan Altima 1997.

When I am backing up, engine stalls and suddenly die. This happens once a
week and I got engine check light on which says speed sensor malfunciton.
The engine check light went off after two days and everything seemed o.k.
But, when I was backing, engine stalled and died without engine check light on.

Same problem happens when I turn right at the corner. Engine stalls about 2 seconds and die.

Does the speed sensor cause engine die when backing up? Once I drive over 10 miles/hour I don't have any problem.

I am a novice about car repairing. If it's out of my capability, I got to check mechanic shop. But I know they are kind of rip off often when I had problem in my distributor. They told me repairing distributor costs $700.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

Very interesting. Not many people get this type of problem with something to go on. I would definitely put the VSS and speedometer as suspect. The VSS signal is critical to both the ECU and ATCU.

Sounds like it could be a ground problem with something or another.

I'd say your best bet it to do a good amount of research and fix it yourself, or get someone that doesn't suck like Nissan and have them take a look at it for you.

Where are you at?
