What to do with a recalled-Nissan model?

Hello,

I have a Nissan 2000 Sentra GXE model, purchased as a used-car from a private owner few months back. (Before the private owner, it was a leased car). Couple of weeks back, the 'Service Engine Soon" light lit and when checked with the dealer, they mentioned about mass airflow meter (total of $750 !))

After some research, I found that this Nissan 2000 model was infact recalled for the same issue I had. (atleast thats what I can make out). The link to the recall is here:

http://www.consumerreports.org/main/...=1129529809457

More information can be found in www.recalls.gov

Now, what are my options? Can I drive up to the local Nissan dealer and ask them to do the mentioned repair, for free or can I ask them to recall my car for a trade-in or if possible, $$$$ cash?

Appreciate your comments, suggestions and advises!

Thanks
Kamur

Take the car to your Nissan dealer and have them run the car's VIN number through the computer system to find out if there are any active recalls. I know that 1999-2005 Sentras had a few recalls and even though your car might be out of warranty, Nissan may still be obligated to repair it at no charge.

Yup, they check by DMV as well, so you my well get a letter in the mail in a few months.

Going to the dealership is faster though. Just beware that they may have already done the recall, so then you'll have to pay.
