1997 Altima

Hey i'm new to the forums... I own a 1997 Nissan Altima GXE it's my first car.... Anyways I want to know what the life is on these cars generally... Mine right now is at 120K miles and it still seems to be going pretty strong. However, I have been having a few problems with it... Nothing too big at all.... I have noticed though that the car seems to go through engine and transmission mounts quite frequently.... I know a lot about cars but I don't do the work myself cause I don't have the time. I really do love my car but I wanted to know most of all if it is worth fixing... the drivers side fender is sort of banged up nothing too bad and the front bumper has a few scrapes... the rest of the car has a few scratches in it but no dents... So how long is my baby gonna last do you think?

It depends on how it has been maintained. If it has been maintained well, it could last a lot longer. 200K is within reason. If it hasn't been maintained well, it may be on its last legs..

yeah it has been maintained pretty well... Just got the drivers side boot axel replaced... It's in to the mechanic every 3 months or every 3,000 miles.. NOT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP!!! but to a very good independant mechanic... But like I said it does seem to go through engine and transmission mounts often... Is that abnormal or a regular thing?

If it's the same mounts over & over again, I think that's not usual. If it has been different mounts, it's not unusual on an 11 year old car--if 1 goes it probably put strain on others & they were ready to go also.

Well At first I took it in because it was "shaking" and it was one of the transmission mounts. So I got that replaced. Then when I took it in the next time I told my mechanic that the car was "shaking," like the car was doing before. It had stopped it temporarily when I had gotten the new mount but started again 1500 miles later. So they told me it was the motor mounts and that they all needed to be replaced. So I got them all replaced and the car was not shaking again. So last time I took it in which was 3,000 miles ago I got the routine servicing and the drivers side boot axel replaced. Then my mechanic had told me that the transmission mount they had replaced before had broken and that it was replaced for free under warrenty. The car stopped its shaking again. Now 3,000 miles later the car is again shaking but not nearly as bad as what it has been doing. It is ideling at a stop light at 1000- 1500 rpm unless I let it warm up in the morning. If I let it warm up then it ideals at 500 rpm. I don't think that there is anything to seriously wrong about the car but i'm not entirly sure. I do know something about cars. Not really enought to fix them myself but I do know enough about them to understand them.
