Unhappy 200SX fuel pump runs contiuously

Hello

I have an 87 200 SX hatch CA20. The fuel pump runs continously. Ign. on or off it will not stop unless I disconnect the battery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

signal wire for the pump is probably tapped to a constant power source. switch it to a switched ignition source.

This leads me to believe there may have been an issue for someone to swap it from switched to constant. If you swap it to a switched position, and it pops fuses, doesn't work, break out the multimeter and see how many amps it's pulling. If there's an issue, I'd suggest a replacement pump.

thanks Dustin Ill check the leads at the pump

This is something new. Have had the car since 2002 and the pump thing just started. it was parked for a few days when I went to start it the batt was dead. When I hooked up the charger the pump started running and runs steady. Thats what killed the battery. I have been disconnecting the pump at the connector in the back under the hatch. Ive checked just about every relay no joy. I thought it might be a failed ign switch.

you have ahort to power. your acc wire to the pump must be shortin against a power wire. thus sending power to the pump.

The problem is at the fuel tank sending unit.

It happens when the insulators around the wires that go to the pump short out against the metal sending unit, most likely the ground (since the pump is switched by the ground, otherwise it would blow the pump fuel).

What you need to do, and do it as fast as possible (and this goes for ANY 84-88 200SX/S12 owner!) is go and get a new sending unit. The Nissan part number is 25060-30F01 and should cost around $140, it fits all models and doesn't include a pump.

well guys the problem is solved. I took the pump right out and had a good look at the connectors and the neg wire to the pump was shorted to the case. I dissasembled the terminal where it passes throught he pump case and put a new insulator in and rebuilt the terminal. Pump now works as advertised. Thanks again for all your help.
