200SX EGR Problem, replaced valve, sensor, and hose
I've had my engine light on a while and since I moved to Massachusetts, and I can't pass inspection until it's resolved. The code is EGR related. I've had my EGR temperature sensor replaced, and that didn't fix it. My uncle (a mechanic) suggested replacing the EGR valve since it's a 1997 w/ 120K miles and it will go eventually anyway (I plan to have the car long-term). So I did that and while replacing it I discovered a busted small rubber hose connecting to one of the metal pipes leading into the valve (not the vacuum hose). So I replaced that too and figured that must be the problem. The light came back on AGAIN! So I'm not sure what else to do with this thing. I don't want to let the mechanic try to diagnose it and charge me up the nose, especially since I replaced the valve myself and it wasn't that hard. I also wonder about this mechanic since they never discovered the hose; I would think those are the first things they would check. I also tried to clean out the area as much as possible before putting on the valve, but there wasn't that much buildup.
I noticed this is mostly a performance forum; if there's a better place to post technical support questions let me know.
Any help would be great.
